Fondest Memory of Flinders AC:I have many fond memories of Flinders AC – too many to mention just one. Club trips and training camps to Stawell, the AIS and the Coorong certainly come to mind, as well as competing at national championships with Flinders team mates. I’ll always fondly remember Toby’s passion and love for the sport, and his pre-training pep talks.
What Flinders AC taught you as an athlete: That winning races is great, but the thing that really lasts is the memories and lifetime friendship you make on the way.
- Breaking the South Australian records at 10, 000m and Half Marathon
- Representing Australia at Commonwealth Games, World Cross Country Championships, World Half Marathon Championships and International Ekiden Relay
- Winning Australian Championships at 10, 000m, Half Marathon and Marathon
- Becoming the first athlete to win both the men's Zatopek 10, 000m (2005) and Jnr De Castella 3, 000m (1991)
- AIS Scholarship holder
Where are you now:I’m currently living in Canberra with my wife Stefani and two children, Sebastian (6yrs) and Sasha (4yrs), and two dogs, Hicham and Pepe.I work at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in the Performance Investment branch – the section of the AIS which determines dAIS funding to athletes and funding to National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), such as Athletics Australia. Additionally, we provide oversight on the use of those funds and monitor the ongoing financial viability of NSOs.I have recently resumed running and cycling again after an almost three year hiatus from training. I hope to commence racing again in late 2015. I’d, also like to do some coaching at some stage.
